Once again Cape Chin author/illustrator Sally Raspin has succumbed to the exquisite charm of the North Bruce and with Brucedale Press has produced her second children’s book set in Cape Chin.  Both ‘Grandma’s Turkeys’, a true story based on her and her husband, Jim Mummery’s experience of raising turkeys and her second book, ‘The Big Wind’, a fictional story, place a strong emphasis on rural life and the plants and animals of the North Bruce Peninsula.

Sally illustrates her story of a wind borne Grandma in oversized overalls and her eventual rescue by her grandchildren with water colours which emphasize the flora and fauna of their little farm at Cape Chin North. Sally says, “I want young children to know about their natural environment and to know that there is another life beyond the city limits. I’d like to think my grandchildren will grow up with some idea of where their food comes from too.”

Bob Day directed a 6 year project to create the Bruce Peninsula National Park and Fathom Five National Marine Park. He became their first superintendent and played a key role in developing what is now a world-class natural attraction.

In his book, Bob gives timelines and reflections from the various players who shared the highs and lows of establishing a National Park in the small village of Tobermory, Ontario. Reviewer Ed Doadt of the Bruce Trail Club says "This book is a must read for anyone with a fascination for the Bruce Peninsula."

Book Signing - Ferelith Hoffman-Taylor, Local Author - Sunday, July 1st, 1 pm - 3pm

"The tent was set up and all was complete,
for the party was soon to begin.
A soft breeze blew and the daisies kept beat
with the music that came from within'
I looked my best and had on a new gown,
'twas my Birthday Party, you see!
But then I saw movement, and when I looked down,
Max had come out to tea!"

ALL About Max is about one summer in the life of a little rattlesnake named Max. It is a true story - well almost a true story.  I did say that Max came out to tea, but  I don't think rattlesnakes drink tea; do they?  I have dedicated this little book of poetry to: All who live or visit the habitat of the Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnake. The Northern Bruce Peninsula is a wildlife habitat and, as the story tells us, "we are all creatures of this earth and we all belong," even if you are a little rattlesnake named Max. Ferelith's books are meant to be read aloud and enjoyed by the young and the young at heart. Please bring your children and join us for a reading of ALL About Max and get your copy signed by Ferelith.

Book Signing - Wilmer Nadjiwon, Local Author - Saturday, June 30th 1pm - 3pm

Approaching his 91st birthday the legendary artist and wood carver, Wilmer Nadjiwon has finally captured his incredible life in this series of overlapping stories.

Wilmer Nadjiwon was born on Cape Croker Reserve near Wiarton, Ontario in 1921. His idyllic childhood ended abruptly in 1930 when his mother was killed in a car accident. The Indian Agent compounded the tragedy by ordering that Wilmer be sent immediately to St. Peter Clavier Residential School in Spanish, Ontario, where he endured years of cruelty and abuse. It would deeply impact every aspect of his life.

AND Wilmer is a survivor indeed. His fascinating story continues through his service to Canada during World War II and his subsequent years working tirelessly for native rights. His creative expression is visible throughout museums, private collections and in cultural displays around the country.

Join us for the launch and book signing with Wilmer.
